An inclusive and secure digital identity to every resident for seamless and equitable access to services towards a better life
To issue a unique identifier that will serve as the foundational proof of identity to access services for all citizens and residents of Ethiopia
A foundational Digital ID service whose core principles lie in the values of trust, inclusion, transparency and good governance
This stage requires the physical presence of the applicant at a registration center based on their pre-booked date and time. Registrants will be asked to provide their appointment confirmation at the time of registration either on a screenshot of the confirmation page, paper printed, email, or text. During registration, officers will collect biometric data (Fingerprint of 10 fingers, Iris scan of 2 eyes, and a face picture) along with hardcopies of the provided acceptable proof of documents initially filled out during the pre-registration phase.
After successful resident registration and technical completion of the necessary duplication process, the National ID Program will generate a 12-digit unique identification number now called the Fayda Identification Number (FIN) for each registered individual. The 12 digit number will be automatically sent to the registered individual via SMS to their mobile. It can also be offered in solid physical ID credential (printed card) if requested by the resident.
The National ID Program's online and offline help desk will provide continuous support via its various contact channels of telephone, email, and social media in different languages for customers that need support and information regarding enrollment-related issues.
Authentication is the process by which the unique number along with demographic data or biometric data of an individual is submitted to the Central Database for its verification and such database verifies the correctness, or the lack thereof, on the basis of information available with it. The National ID Program (NIDP) provides API's in which an individual can perform such authentications after registering in the Fayda Platform. Authentication can be performed by a registered authentication partner over a secure network provided by NIDP's infrastructure service.

NIDP intends to issue Digital IDs to over 70 million citizens and residents in Ethiopia by the end of 2025. The program will be utilizing a variety of set strategies for enrollment, authentication, technology, stakeholder engagement, communications, and other range of important strategies put in place to achieve its ambitious enrollment targets.
